Speaking is a productive skill in oral mode. Like other skills, it is more complicated than it seems at first and involves more than just pronouncing words. There are three kinds of speaking skills in which we find ourselves; interactive, partially interactive and non-interactive.
Interactive speaking situations include face-to-face conversations, telephone calls and other more whereas the speaker and the listener alternately speak and listen to each other. Both have the chance to clarify, ask for repetition, or slower the speech for the conversation partner.
Partially interactive speaking situations are when the speaker speaks in front of an audience. The listeners do not interrupt the speech and the person speaking will have to rely on the expressions of the crowd and their body language. Through this will he or she be able to know that he or she is understood.
Radios, televisions and, records are examples of non-interactive speaking situations. There is no direct eye contact, a speaker speaks without knowing the reaction of their audience and the listener comments indirectly. Vlogs are also an example whereas they talk about their opinion in front of a camera and the audience replying via messages or commentaries under the comment section. In other words, non-interactive speaking is indirect communication.
Speaking is easy. The skill, however, is different. Speeches without basis nor outline do not lead to a point and therefore deem useless to the audience. The speaker bores them and thus, ignores. This skill requires practice and knowledge. When a person learns to speak, they mustn’t neglect other lessons that can help improve it.
These lessons include being prepared and well practised, knowledge of the audience at hand, and keep the speech short and simple. Always interact with your audience and speak with sincerity and passion throughout the duration. Fluency, of course, is a must. After, end the speech in the most memorable way.
This course will not only help improve speaking skill but also boost self-esteem and confidence. Exposure is a must. Without proper experience, the student may not achieve the objectives set.
