- Define the 8 Disciplines Problem Solving Process
- State the benefits of the 8 Discipline Problem Solving Process
- Explain D0: Plan – Plan for solving the problem and determine the prerequisites.
- Explain D1: Use a team – Choose and establish a group of people with product/process knowledge.
- Explain D2: Define and illustrate the problem – Define the problem by recognising in quantifiable phrases the who, where, what, when, why, how, and how many (5W2H) for the challenge.
- Explain D3: Develop interim containment plan; implement and verify temporary actions – Define and perform containment efforts to isolate the problem from any customer.
- Explain D4: Determine, identify, and verify root causes and escape points – Identify all applicable reasons that could explain why the problem occurred. Also, recognise why the problem was not noticed at the time it happened. All causes shall be confirmed or proved, not defined by foggy brainstorming. An individual can use 5 Whys and cause and effect designs to map causes against the effect or problem identified.
- Explain D5: Determine and support permanent corrections (PCs) for problem/nonconformity – Within preproduction programs, quantitatively verify that the selected correction will solve the problem for the consumer.
- Explain D6: Implement and validate corrective actions – Define and implement the best corrective actions (CA).
- Explain D7: Take precautionary measures – Modify the management systems, operation systems, methods, and methods to stop recurrence of this and all similar problems.
- Explain D8: Congratulate your team – Understand the collective efforts of the group. The unit requires to be formally thanked by the organization.
